"Instead of 'egg yolks and egg whites,' we should call it 'egg yellows and egg whites.' Or, perhaps 'egg yolks and egg yikes?"
Hello! I'm Sarah Xu, pronounced ecks-yew, and I'm a sophomore representative for this year. I am a reader-writer-cello with at least three notebooks full of crazy ideas. I'm really excited to see what Key Club is like from the perspective of an officer, as I've been experiencing it as a member for the past year. For the year ahead, I truly hope to continue seeing amazing things from my community, as all of us try to create a better world together. Without Key Club, people may have good intentions, but they often don't have a concrete aim or method to carry out their dreams. Key Club allows everyone on this figurative boat to align their paddles, carrying the boat swiftly towards a better tomorrow. |

a key club story:
As the bell rang, I hastily copied down all the vocabulary words for this week: POTATO, PIZZA, DIRT, HEDGEHOG, and WIFE. Idly, I wondered if the teacher had gotten hungry when thinking of this week’s words, but quickly dismissed the thought. I just remembered that I was going to go to a PIEDMONT HILLS KEY CLUB event the next day, which was a perfect way to destress. All I couldn’t understand was what the big deal was with the 4 CORE VALUES that the club celebrated so much.
The next day, I woke up far too early, as I was too excited to begin the event to sleep. Though, it was lucky to go so early, as I had quite a hard time getting to the event. There was a couple arguing in the middle of the street, and I learned from the WIFE’s words that they disagreed on if POTATOes should be on PIZZA. I was caught off guard, as I had never heard of POTATOes on PIZZA, but I tried to offer my advice, until I finally suggested putting POTATOes on half of it. Satisfied, the couple left, and I had just enough time to make it on time.
Quickly, we started to work on spreading cardboard on the DIRT field, allowing the field to be prepared to grow other plants. I was just laying out a board when an organizer stopped me and pointed out a hole in the dirt I hadn’t noticed. Upon closer examination, I realized that it was a small critter’s home. The leader told me that there were many HAMSTERS burrowing underground in this field, and we should leave their homes untouched. I was very glad that he thought to include the service to the hamsters with the help for the park. I felt like I had gotten a lesson on good character, as well as how to care for others with just a bit more thought. Suddenly, I had an epiphany: what if this is what the 4 CORE VALUES are all about?
